    We have an opportunity for a full-time Specialty Doctor to shape services at Hansa Ward, Cygnet Hospital Beckton– while being fully supported by a Consultant Psychiatrist and first-class multidisciplinary team.

    Hansa Ward is a 13 bed, high dependency complex care service for women with learning disabilities, associated complex needs and who may have behaviours that challenge. Emergency referrals are accepted and the team are experienced in managing them quickly and efficiently to ensure the transition for the service user is as smooth as possible.

    The post holder is encouraged to join the hospital out of hours on call rota at a frequency of one in seven. The on call doctor would provide medical advice and support to the nursing team and undertake admission clerkings out of hours.

    Your role responsibilities…

    • Provide high quality treatment under the direction of a Consultant Psychiatrist
    • Assess referrals & undertake mental state examinations of service users
    • Participate in weekly ward rounds & attend multidisciplinary meetings
    • Attend Care Programme Approach & Section 117 meetings & mental health review tribunals
    • Provide up-to-date clinical information at all meetings
    • Ensure that medical decisions are implemented as planned
    • Audit medical services & ensure compliance with GMC & other professional guidelines
    • Uphold policies & procedures and contribute to service governance & development

    We are looking for someone who is... 

    • Fully GMC registered & MBBS (or equivalent) qualified  
    • Relevant experience within Learning Disabilities
    • Experienced within a mental health setting
    • Able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
    • Knowledgeable of mental health legislation & codes of practice
    • An excellent clinical decision maker, with sound judgement & ability to manage risk
    • A first-rate communicator who can interview, assess & treat patients & write clear, comprehensive medical notes
    • Committed to continued professional development
    • Preferably approved under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act & a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, or equivalent

     
    Our CESR programme
    This programme will help you develop the skills you need to progress to Consultant level – and you’ll rotate within wards/services to gain valuable experience across various subspecialties.

    You’ll also have an educational supervisor to review your progress and oversee your development – and you’ll receive support with MRCPsych exams.

  • Cygnet Hospital Beckton is a smoke free gender specific hospital for women with complex mental health needs. We accept emergency and planned, pre-assessed admissions. We provide a multi-disciplinary approach, to help service users return home as quickly as possible.

    Situated in the East End of London, the hospital has four different specialist wards including mental health with learning disability, personality disorder, PICU and low secure.

    The overall ambience of the hospital is welcoming. The team take great pride in providing the best possible therapeutic environment in conjunction with the service users.
