    Who are we looking for?

    We are looking to recruit a highly specialist and dedicated SLT to join our team in Scotland.  The team supports one inpatient setting and 4 residential services for individuals with a learning disability and/or autism who have additional mental or physical health needs and complex behaviours.

    Yes, we will help you develop and provide career opportunities.  Right now, this post would be appropriate for an SLT who is looking for a balance of clinical and professional responsibilities with the opportunity grow their own leadership skills.  We will work with you over the first 6 months to identify how we can invest in your PDP with the vision of becoming the Lead Speech and Language Therapist for the our Scottish SLT provision.  The role does involve some travel (expenses paid) as there are services in Dundee, Dunblane and Lockerbie.


    What does the role look like?


    You will have a unique opportunity to lead on the delivery of an evidence-based SLT service to meet the needs of the complex client group across an inpatient service and four residential settings.  Your clinical caseload will be focused to dysphagia management and promoting safe eating and drinking. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will use expert skills to direct two Band 5 SLTs in the assessment, intervention and promotion of functional communication systems for optimal independence.  You will identify training needs of the wider workforce through approved methodology and promote good practice to establish an innovative SLT service. 

     

    Who will you report to?

    You will be accountable to the Director of Speech and Language Therapy who visits the service in person at least once a month. Your clinical and professional supervision will be provided by the Director of SLT who is familiar with each service, the staffing teams and the current client group.  You will receive onsite line management supervision from the Service Manager at Wallace Hospital, Dundee.

     

    Who will I be leading?

    As a highly specialist, you will be hands on in your interaction and working style leading through modelling and visibility. You will have the responsibility of providing clinical supervision to two full time Band 5 SLTs working within the team.  


    We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist with:

    • Strong clinical and professional skills
    • Working experience in the field of Learning Disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorders and Mental Health Conditions.
    • Understanding of Positive Behaviour Support with an emphasis on person-centred planning.
    • Knowledge of key national drivers for inpatient services.
    • Qualification in Dysphagia management essential
    • Evidence of providing clinical supervision.
    • Evidence of being a strong team player with a genuine desire to help others
    • Good organisational and project management skills
    • Ability to work flexibly in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
    • Enthusiasm, motivation and passion
