  • Cygnet Hospital Beckton is a gender specific hospital for women with complex mental health needs. Situated in the East End of London, the hospital has four different specialist wards including mental health with learning disability, personality disorder, PICU and low secure.

    We are looking for a motivated, experienced and enthusiastic Assistant Cook who will support the duty chef to produce well-presented, outstanding food that tastes fantastic! 

    You will be as passionate about food as we are and aspire to the very highest of standards in all aspects of the catering function.  

    Hours worked will be split across a 4 or 5 day week including weekends depending on the rota. Earliest start time 6am – latest finish time 6pm.

    To be considered for this role you will need to

    • Be able to work flexible to cover weekends & bank holidays. 
    • Have experience of working in a high volume, quality catering establishment.
    • Have experience of banqueting and or corporate cooking.
    • Be willing and able to cover the duty chef or kitchen assistant role in the event of staff absence.
    • A minimum NVQ level 2/3 in Professional Cookery or equivalent.
    • Be able to work flexible to cover weekends & bank holidays. 
    • Be passionate about good fresh food and ingredients.
    • Place orders, assist in stock management and control.
    • Be responsible for all aspects of food safety, health and safety and COSHH.
    • Have a proven track record of continually improving standards and achieving set targets.
    • Be fluent in English both written and verbal.
