    An exciting opportunity has become available to join us as a Full-time Associate Specialist / Specialty Doctor at Cygnet Hospital Beckton, Hooper Ward.


     Cygnet Health Care is one of the UK's largest independent providers of specialist mental health treatment and associated care across a range of mental health service.     We aim to appoint an Associate Specialist or Specialty Doctor (dependent on experience) to work full time (40 hours per week) in order to provide psychiatric care on Hooper Ward, at Cygnet Hospital Beckton. Hooper Ward is Cygnet Hospital Beckton’s female PICU service. The team tailors care to improve service users’ wellbeing, reduce risk and facilitate engagement in their recovery. Service users can be admitted from the criminal justice system, prison or be detained under the Mental Health Act.


    We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed specialty doctor to join Cygnet Healthcare Beckton team.  You will closely work with a committed MDT and assist the Consultant Psychiatrist in providing day-to-day medical expertise for care delivery and clinical leadership.


    Personal development opportunities exist by way of an academic program for medical staff. There will also be the opportunity to undertake clinically relevant research, audit and contribute to the unit quality improvement initiatives. This post provides an exciting opportunity to work in a specialist, tertiary-level service and for the successful candidate to contribute to the development of the services as they respond to the changing healthcare landscape.


    We Are Looking For People Who Have:


    • Full GMC registration along with post registration experience
    • Relevant experience within a personality disorder service
    • The ability to interview and assess patients whilst making informed decisions in reference to appropriate treatment options
    • Excellent communication skills and the ability to write clear comprehensive medical notes
    • Excellent knowledge of the Mental Health Act and Code of Practice along with Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Code of Capacity
    • Up to date record of Continued Professional Development (CPD)
    • The ability to work as part of a Multidisciplinary Team
    • Desirable: MRCPsych or equivalent

    The opportunity to progress to Consultant level through our CESR programme


    • You will be interviewed and a programme will be formulated to assess your educational needs and to help you achieve the competencies necessary to help you progress to Consultant level.
    • You will get the opportunity to rotate within the wards/services to gain experience across various subspecialties.
    • You will be assigned an educational supervisor who will review your progress weekly and oversee your educational development.
    • You will get support with the MRCPsych exams.

  • Cygnet Hospital Beckton is a smoke free gender specific hospital for women with complex mental health needs. We accept emergency and planned, pre-assessed admissions. We provide a multi-disciplinary approach, to help service users return home as quickly as possible.

    Situated in the East End of London, the hospital has four different specialist wards including mental health with learning disability, personality disorder, PICU and low secure.

    The overall ambience of the hospital is welcoming. The team take great pride in providing the best possible therapeutic environment in conjunction with the service users.
