  • Are you a passionate and enthusiastic Psychology graduate seeking a Voluntary Assistant Psychologist role in Adult Healthcare? This role is 1 day per week.

    If yes, this is the role for you! Cygnet Health is one of the UK’s largest providers of specialist adult services in mental health rehabilitation and learning disabilities.

    Defryn Lodge a 24-bedded High Dependency hospital specializing in mental health rehabilitation for women with severe and enduring mental health difficulties who are detained under the mental health Act. It includes an on-site step down residential service.

    We are looking to recruit a volunteer to support the Qualified Consultant Counselling Psychologist and Assistant Psychologist in the psychological care of women within this service

    Under the supervision of the qualified Psychologist the Post Holder will support the Assistant Psychologist in clinically related administration activities. Other duties will include psychological assessment activities, the preparation of training materials for patient group therapy and staff training programmes and the design, co–ordination and facilitation of other service development projects as appropriate to the grade.

    This honorary post would suit a Psychology Graduate who is passionate about   learning what it is like to work within a multidisciplinary Rehabilitation Mental Health team. It will give you experience in applied psychology tasks and responsibilities.  

    This is an unpaid post. A £100 monthly allowance will be included to cover incurred work related costs.

    This Psychology department is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. As part of the selection process you will be required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring check.

    The Opportunity

    As a Voluntary Assistant Psychologist, you support the Assistant and Consultant Counselling Psychologist in clinically related administrative activities, psychological assessment and treatment. You will assist with the scoring of psychometrics and cognitive functioning assessments, observation and facilitation of group therapy programmes for service users. There will also be opportunities to attend regional monthly training and clinical meetings.

    Candidate Profile

    The successful candidate for this role will have a degree in Psychology (or an equivalent, relevant qualification). We are looking for someone who is passionate about learning and willing to work as part of a multidisciplinary rehabilitation mental health team. Any previous Assistant Psychologist experience is ideal. We are looking for someone with initiative, who can hit the ground running and is keen to build on their Assistant Psychologist experience.

    If you are successful for this role you will be able to claim up to £100 per month for travel to the site. You will also be provided with food on the day of service and expenses for other relevant work related activities will also be reimbursed. 


    The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS and reference check.
