  • We are looking for a professional, confident Ward Manager who can lead, inspire & oversee the delivery of the very best care, to join us at our service located in Weston-Super-Mare.

    You will be working 37.5 hours per week, with on call responsibilities, on Kingstone Ward at Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke.

    Knightstone Ward is a 16 bed personality disorder service for women.  We are currently setting up the service to launch a new Intensive Support Service for women with a diagnosis of personality disorder and complex mental health needs in January 2021.  This offers a great opportunity for the right candidate to take an active lead role in the leading and supporting this project.

    The model embraces a wide range of evidence-based interventions such as DBT, CBT, Schema, mindfulness along with alternative therapies such as art therapy and music therapy in order to respond to service user underlying needs

    Cygnet Hospital Kewstoke provides an emergency admissions service for men and a pathway for women from low secure to rehabilitation, including our specialist service for personality disorder.

     

    Your day-to-day…

    • Provide the highest standard of nursing care & be a role model to junior staff
    • Co-ordinate all clinical aspects of the ward & ensure co-operation between clinical departments
    • Implement clinical & administrative policies, procedures & regulations
    • Ensure compliance by others of policies, procedures & regulations
    • Support staff through debriefs, appraisals, training, meetings & development of evidence/ research-based practice
    • Participate in the manager’s on-call system to provide the first point of contact for ward-based staff, outside of normal working hours
    • Lead by example to ensure consistently high standards of clinical care & documentation

    • Experienced in managing change, leadership initiatives, motivating & developing others

    • Capable of undertaking audits, developing, following-up & ensuring completion of action plans
    • Well informed of the Mental Health Act 1983 & the latest nursing practices
    • Focused on patient recovery to monitor, manage & reduce risk

    On Knightstone Ward, all members of the multidisciplinary team are extensively trained in DBT, this includes members of the nursing team being DBT therapists or DBT essentials trained. The team comprise of a ward manager, consultant psychiatrist, psychologist, occupational therapist, support workers and social workers.

    Collaborative working is an essential part of Knightstone Ward, not only with external professionals but also carers having the option to contact the responsible clinician or ward manager and to attend meetings, where appropriate.
