    Are you interested in the relationship between language and behaviour and how this may impact on a young person’s mental well-being? We have an exciting opportunity for a band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to work within our inpatient CAMHS services at Cygnet Bury.

    Cygnet Health Care is looking for a dedicated, caring individual to join the company as a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist at Cygnet Hospital Bury.  Cygnet Hospital Bury offers individualised assessment, care and treatment of a wide range of mental disorders, alongside complex communication needs.  This post will be working in our CAMHS services on 4 wards.


    Job Role:

    Working in CAMHS, you will be supported in this key role by a band 5 SLT and a full MDT consisting of OT, nursing, psychiatry, psychology, carers and family members. Social workers and Arts Therapists are also in regular presence. All wards provide a defined treatment pathway from admission through to intervention and discharge including rapid assessment and treatment with consideration of educational needs. You will be expected to assess, diagnose and play a key role in the management of young people with complex communication needs, challenging behaviours and other diagnosed/undiagnosed conditions.


    You will have a unique opportunity, on the CAMHS wards, to develop and deliver an evidence-based SLT service to meet the needs of the complex client group within an inpatient hospital setting. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team you will use expert skills to assess, advise and intervene with the aim of promoting functional communication systems and optimal independence.  You will receive regular supervision, train others, promote good practice and maintain a successful total communication environment.  You will be accountable to the Director of Speech and Language Therapy and Clinical Manager.


    We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist with:

    • Strong clinical and professional skills
    • Experience or keen interest in the field of forensics, criminal justice and Mental Health Conditions.
    • Working knowledge in secure hospital/ward beneficial
    • Understanding of Positive Behaviour Support with an emphasis on person-centred planning.
    • Ability to use own initiative and guide junior members of the SLT team.
    • Evidence of being a strong team player with a genuine desire to help others
    • Good organisational and project management skills
    • Ability to work flexibly in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
    • Enthusiasm, motivation and passion
