  • An opportunity has become available for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our vibrant and highly experienced inter-disciplinary team at Cygnet Hospital Stevenage.

    Cygnet Hospital Stevenage is a CQC rated ‘Good’ mental health inpatient service that offers a therapeutic environment for up to 86 clients, split into 6 wards where the focus is on maximising positive outcomes and recovery. We provide two separate care pathways for men and women from locked acute admissions services to low secure through to medium secure services.

    The Opportunity...

    As a Consultant Psychiatrist you will have clinical responsibility for patients and their treatment plans on a medium secure female ward and half of a low secure male ward.

    The post-holder will;

    • screen and assess referrals
    • undertake client examination to establish diagnosis
    • provide appropriate treatment
    • prescribe and review medication

    This role will lead on risk management and embedding clinical governance within the hospital. There is a requirement to participate in ward rounds, multi-disciplinary meetings, Care Programme Approach Meetings (CPA’s), Mental Health Review Tribunals (MHRT’s) ensuring that full and up-to-date clinical information is available to the meeting and ensuring that medical decisions are implemented as planned.

    The appointed candidate will become part of an established onsite team comprising of Specialty Doctors, Consultant Psychiatrists, a Medical Director, Allied Health Professionals, Psychologists, Management, Nursing Staff and Healthcare Support Workers.

    Our Consultant Psychiatrists also need to have…

    • GMC and specialist registration (CCT/CESR) in Forensic Psychiatry 
    • Section 12 Approval and AC Status
    • CCT in Forensic Psychiatry and experience of working with this client group
    • Royal College of Psychiatrists membership (MRCPsych) or equivalent
    • Excellent verbal / written communication skills to consult with patients / staff members effectively and document clear and comprehensive medical notes
    • Have a clear understanding of the Mental Health Act and Code of Practice
    • An MBBS (or equivalent) medical qualification
    • Experience in making clinical decisions along with knowledge of risk assessment and management principles
    • Proven record of CPD (Continued Professional Development)

    Requirements

    Contracted hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 – 17:30
