    Cygnet Hospital Wyke offers a range of mental health services for men including acute and psychiatric intensive care along with a specialist locked service for older men who continue to present behavioural challenges.

    We are currently recruiting for a Substance Misuse Assistant to assist in the specialist assessment and treatment of patients with a dual diagnosis of mental health and substance misuse. This role will be based within our established Therapy team and will support the substance misuse practitioner in maintaining a safe therapeutic environment for our service users. Working as an active member of our dynamic MDT, you'll provide support for our nursing staff including the admission, assessment, implementation and discharge of inpatients, with a focus on dignity and safety at all times.


    The successful candidate will have experience of working within a relevant setting and will have worked within a multi-disciplinary team. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as well as the ability to motivate service users to engage in therapeutic activities. You'll bring with you a sound level of literacy and numeracy skills and preferably an NVQ level 2/3 in a relevant care setting. With some experience working in a secure a psychiatry service you'll have a good level of physical fitness and a strong, flexible mental aptitude in order to meet the demands of the role. Demonstrating the abilities, experience and skills needed to deal effectively with challenging situations, you have an active interest in developing your knowledge and skills.

  • Location Information

  • Cygnet Lodge Brighouse is a high dependency inpatient rehabilitation service for men. The emphasis within the service is on preparing people for discharge, whilst providing a high level of support and uses a recovery focused model.

    As part of the service, we also provide a three-bed apartment, Rastrick View. This helps support service users to prepare effectively for discharge by further encouraging independence, while maintaining the inputs of the service and staff support where needed. It also provides the chance to evaluate what support a person may need on leaving the service, which can help prevent readmissions and support positive discharges.

    Cygnet Lodge Brighouse can support up to 24 men in a relaxed, calm and friendly environment. The focus is on helping individuals increase their independence wherever possible by accessing the community meaningfully; such as through work and education, as well as social and leisure facilities.
