    We are looking to recruit a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist (Band 6) to join our team at Cygnet Cedar Vale.  Cygnet Cedar Vale is a specialist autism hospital, providing assessment and intervention for up to 14 men living with autism and learning disabilities, as well as associated complex needs or difficulties with social engagement. Cygnet Cedar Vale is an impressive period property, situated on the edge of a picturesque village in its own extensive grounds.

    The service supports individuals with different levels of need in an environment that will support them for moving on to more independent living. Within the service there are a number of communal lounges and dining areas that provide a choice of dining experiences, as well as more opportunities for service users to socialise or have quiet time away from others. Other facilities include a recently expanded and upgraded sensory room, a large garden and skills rooms.


    Job Role:
    As a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, you will have a unique opportunity to support the development and delivery of an evidence-based SLT service to meet the needs of the complex client group within an inpatient complex care service. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will use expert skills to assess, advise and intervene with the aim of promoting, implementing and embedding functional communication systems; this is a hands on role with high levels of service user contact. You will be able to train others, promote good practice and maintain a successful total communication environment.  You will be accountable to the Director of Speech and Language Therapy and the onsite service manager at Cygnet Cedar Vale. Postgraduate qualification in the management of dysphagia is essential and we will provide you with accredited training if this is an area for your personal development.


    We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist with:

    • Strong clinical and professional skills
    • Working experience in the field of Learning Disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorders and Mental Health Conditions.
    • Understanding of Positive Behaviour Support with an emphasis on person-centred planning.
    • Knowledge of sensory needs and how these may impact on functioning and regulation.
    • Knowledge of key national drivers for inpatient services.
    • Qualification in Dysphagia management essential (training available)
    • Evidence of being a strong team player with a genuine desire to help others
    • Good organisational and project management skills
    • Ability to work flexibly in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
    • Enthusiasm, motivation and passion

    You must be a Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered SLT.  Please note: successful candidates will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
