  • An exciting opportunity has become available to join us as a Specialty Doctor at Cygnet Hospital Maidstone.

     

    Cygnet Hospital Maidstone is our state-of-the-art, 65 bed mental health facility for adults situated in the Kent Medical Campus in Maidstone.

     

    This is a full-time position providing psychiatric care to adult (18-65) inpatients and residents of at Cygnet Maidstone. Bearsted Ward is a male PICU which can support up to 15 patients.

     

    This service  aims to look after adult males who at the time of admission may be  suffering from an acute mental illness or an exacerbation of a chronic mental illness, may be displaying challenging behaviours as a result of a mental illness, demonstrate significant risk, including aggression to self and others, absconding and / or vulnerability, require relatively short-term intensive care in a safe environment and have been detained under the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended by the Mental Health Act 2007)

     

    The post holder is expected to be fully involved as a practising psychiatrist within the multidisciplinary team. The post holder has delegated responsibility for the patients assigned to them under the supervision of the responsible clinician and consultant psychiatrist, to whom the post holder will report clinically.

     

    The Opportunity

     

    As a Specialty Doctor you will work closely with the Consultant Psychiatrist to provide continuous medical cover on a daily basis to the patients on the ward.

    You will undertake initial clerking and mental state examination of patients on admission.

    Assessment, appropriate investigation, diagnosis and treatment under Consultant supervision of inpatients of the unit. Each patient must be interviewed and reassessed at a frequency appropriate to their individual clinical needs and sufficient to monitor changes and make timely modifications to the treatment plan.

    Good communication with ward nursing staff, including morning handover meetings each working day.

    To participate in treatment plans and programmes as appropriate to ensure good medical practice within the MDT setting.

    The post-holder will participate in clinical audit, collating, analysing and presenting data at clinical audit meetings and care conferences as directed by the Consultant.

    General working hours are Monday to Friday 9:00 – 17:00 and will this role will include participating in the on call rota.

     

    We Are Looking For People Who Have:

     

    • Full GMC registration
    • 12 months adult psychiatry experience
    • Relevant experience within a similar setting (preferred)
    • Approval under Section 12 of the Mental Health Act (preferred)
    • Excellent knowledge of the Mental Health Act and Code of Practice along with Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Code of Capacity
    • The ability to interview, assess and treat patients and write clear comprehensive medical notes
    • Proven record of CPD
    • Desirable: Membership of Royal College of Psychiatrists, Physicians, General Practitioners or equivalent

    • You will get the opportunity to rotate within the wards/services to gain experience across various subspecialties.
    • You will be assigned an educational supervisor who will review your progress weekly and oversee your educational development.
    • You will get support with the MRCPsych exams.
