    We have an exciting opportunity to join the Therapy department at Cygnet hospital in Harrogate.

    The role of the Activity Co-ordinator is to help compliment both Therapy and Nursing departments by providing meaningful activities for patients both within the hospitals acute psychiatric setting and the local area. This includes supporting both leisure and occupational activities with a mixed-sex patient group across two wards.

    You will:

    • Have autonomy with which to develop and tailor a programme with support of the Therapy team.
    • Facilitate inclusive ward-based leisure activities for all patients to engage in.
    • Support individuals with structured occupational activities outside of the hospital, whilst demonstrating an understanding of individual risk.
    • Promote independent thinking, group work and social inclusion.
    • Work alongside the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to support patients throughout the stages of their recovery during an acute admission.
    • Liaise with the clinical team to ensure you are aware of current clinical issues.
    • Help to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment.
    • Complete accurate records within clinical notes and maintain confidentiality.
    • Have a duty to prevent abuse and neglect and report any concerns immediately through the appropriate safeguarding channels.

    Hours: 32 hours, alternate weekends, afternoon and evening shifts.

    • The ability to adapt to varying situations
    • An understanding of the importance of offering a consistent and structured therapy programme to promote meaningful occupation.

  • Location Information
  • Cygnet Hospital Harrogate is a long-established mental health hospital that provides an emergency admissions service across two acute wards.

    Service users have a named nurse and are reviewed by a consultant psychiatrist up to three times a week. Medical cover is provided round the clock. Referrals and admissions can be received at any time of the day or night by arrangement with the consultant psychiatrist and medical staff on call.

    The hospital is located in very pleasant surroundings, in this picturesque North Yorkshire spa town which is easily accessed by road and rail.


    This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
