    Who are we looking for?

    We are looking to recruit a Specialist SLT (Band 6) or Highly Specialist SLT (Band 7) to join Adults with Autism Services (AdAS) based in the Southampton area: The Squirrels and Devon Lodge. Both The Squirrels and Devon Lodge provide specialist care and support for up to 9 and 12 individuals with autism and challenging behaviours, respectively.

    What does the role look like?

    You will have a unique opportunity to deliver an evidence-based SLT service to a fixed caseload across 2 residences, with the opportunity to cover an eating, drinking, feeding and swallowing caseload in Bournemouth. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, your clinical work will focus on providing assessment, goal-focused intervention and promotion of functional communication systems, including a total communication approach through the development of the environment. Integral to the role is the delivery of training to staff supporting the residents. 

    Who will you report to?

    You will be accountable to the Director of Speech and Language Therapy and will receive clinical and professional supervision from the Deputy Head of Speech and Language Therapy, who visits the service at least once a month. You will receive line management supervision from a Site Manager. 

    Who will you be leading?

    As a specialist or highly specialist, you will be hands on in your interaction and working style leading through modelling and visibility. You will have the responsibility of providing clinical supervision to 1 full-time Band 5 SLT working across the 3 other AdAS residences in the region.  


    We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist with:

    • Strong clinical and professional skills
    • Experience in the field of Learning Disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorders and Mental Health Conditions.
    • Understanding of Positive Behaviour Support with an emphasis on person-centred planning.
    • Knowledge of key national drivers in Autism.
    • Qualification in Dysphagia management desirable
    • Evidence of being a strong team player with a genuine desire to help others
    • Good organisational skills
    • Ability to work flexibly in a dynamic environment
    • Enthusiasm, motivation and passion

    Requirements
    The successful candidate will work between Monday to Friday and contracted hours will depend on experience:

    Highly Specialist SLT, Band 7 - 20h per week (2.5 days)

    Specialist SLT, Band 6 – 24h per week (3 days)
