  • We are currently recruiting a Clinical or Forensic Psychologist to join our team at Cygnet Hospital Colchester.

    This role is a 12 month fixed term contract covering maternity leave.

    Cygnet Hospital Colchester provides a range of intensive support and rehabilitation services for men with learning disabilities, autism spectrum disorders or mental health needs. The aim of our services is assessment, stabilisation, treatment and engagement, with a view to supporting service users in the least restrictive environment appropriate to their needs.

    The Opportunity…

    The post-holder will work closely with the Head of Psychology and have a key role in leading on specialist psychological assessments, interpretation from psychological tests, semi-structured interviews, individual and group therapy. You will also consider potential risks and social needs of the client group, relevant to their diagnosis.

    You will provide a high quality psychology service to a range of clients on Highwoods Ward - a 19 bed male mental health acute unit. The service will provide a safe and stabilising environment for men who are experiencing an acute episode of mental illness and require an emergency admission. With a focus on stabilisation, we will support service users to manage their mental health, reinforce daily living skills and prepare for independent life back in the community.

    This role will be working as part of an established multi-disciplinary team (MDT) consisting of; a Consultant Psychiatrist, a Specialty Doctor, an Occupational Therapist, a Speech and Language Therapist, Nurses and Health Care Support Workers. You will be expected to offer psychological insight and knowledge around the clinical area and provide consultation about the psychological care of the client group to staff, families and other agencies.

    As a HCPC Registered Psychologist, you will have a pivotal role in the training and clinical supervision of Assistant Psychologists, Volunteers and Psychology Trainees/Students on site. You will also have involvement in audit, policy, service development along with the assessment and interpretation of outcomes.

    You will have…

    A Doctorate Level Qualification (BPS route or equivalent) in Clinical or Forensic Psychology along with HCPC Registration.

    Experience within adult mental health and knowledge of psychological assessment, treatment and therapies.  

    The ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team.

    Training and supervision experience is desirable.

    Contracted hours: up to 37.5 per week, Monday to Friday.

    Please note: successful candidates will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
