    Speech and Language Therapist
    Permanent up to £40,213 PA (FTE)  – 4 days per week.


    We provide a safe therapeutic inpatient service for 9 males with learning disabilities, who have experienced a recent acute episode in the community resulting in a hospital admission for a period of stabilisation. Individual present with behaviours that challenge and associated complex needs. Located in the suburbs of Wibsey in Bradford, the hospital is within close proximity to local services and amenities, including major transport links. An outreach service is also offered to Gledholt, a nine bedded enhanced community residential home providing outcome focused care for adults with learning disabilities, who may have behaviours that challenge and associated complex needs. There is also the opportunity to support community homes within the locality.

    On-going assessment and high staffing levels, based on a minimum ratio of one staff member to two service users, means that we are able to meet the changing needs of service users as they progress through their care pathway, while ensuring their safety is maintained and their independence supported. Regular review meetings involving the service user, their family and professionals are held to review outcomes, set new goals and re-assess support levels as people progress.

    Job Role:

    As a Speech and Language Therapist, you will have a unique opportunity to lead on the development and delivery of an evidence-based SLT service to meet the needs of the complex client group within a hospital and residential setting. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will use expert skills to assess, advise and intervene with the aim of promoting functional communication systems and optimal independence. You will be able to train others, promote good practice and maintain a successful total communication environment. You will be accountable to the Head of Speech and Language Therapy and the onsite service managers. Postgraduate qualification in the management of dysphagia is desirable but not essential.

    We are looking for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist with:

    • Strong clinical and professional skills
    • Experience in the field of Learning Disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorders and Mental Health Conditions.
    • Understanding of Positive Behaviour Support with an emphasis on person-centred planning.
    • Qualification in Dysphagia management desirable
    • Evidence of being a strong team player with a genuine desire to help others
    • Good organisational and project management skills
    • Ability to work flexibly in a fast paced and dynamic environment.
    • Enthusiasm, motivation and passion
