  • An exciting opportunity has become available to join us as a Specialty Doctor at Cygnet Hospital Bury in our Adult Psychiatric services.  

     

    Cygnet Hospital Bury provides a wide range of inpatient mental health services for men and women including specialist deaf services and CAMHS provision for adolescents. Security levels range between medium secure to rehabilitation services. Cygnet Hospital Bury has 167 inpatient beds. It has 125 beds for adults and 42 beds within its Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).  

    In our Adult Services we have: (a) Women and Deaf Services: treating women, including deaf women, in medium (Upper West) and low secure settings (Lower West); female locked rehabilitation ward (South Hampton);  low secure service for deaf men (Bridge Hampton and West Hampton) and (b) MI PD Service with Personality Disorder service for men in medium secure conditions (Madison and Columbus), MI MSU ward (Lower East), and Low Secure Wards (East Hampton and Upper East). The adult services have four Specialty Doctors and Eight Consultant Psychiatrists.

     

    The Opportunity

     

    • You will be part of a medical team of 20 doctors on site (including 12 Consultants and 8 Specialty Doctors)
    • As a Specialty Doctor you will work closely with the Consultant Psychiatrist to provide continuous medical cover on a daily basis to the patients on the ward.
    • You will undertake initial clerking and mental state examination of patients on admission.
    • Assessment, appropriate investigation, diagnosis and treatment under Consultant supervision of inpatients of the unit. Each patient must be interviewed and reassessed at a frequency appropriate to their individual clinical needs and sufficient to monitor changes and make timely modifications to the treatment plan.
    • Good communication with ward nursing staff, including morning handover meetings each working day.
    • To participate in treatment plans and programmes as appropriate to ensure good medical practice within the MDT setting.
    • The post-holder will participate in clinical audit, collating, analysing and presenting data at clinical audit meetings and care conferences as directed by the Consultant.
    • General working hours are Monday to Friday 9:00 – 17:00 and minimum 1: 6 Rota. It is currently 1:7 and will reduce to 1:8 when fully recruited (Non Resident on Call)

     

    We are looking for people who have:

     

    • Full GMC registration along with post registration experience
    • Relevant experience within adult psychiatric services.
    • The ability to interview and assess patients whilst making informed decisions in reference to appropriate treatment options
    • Excellent communication skills and the ability to write clear comprehensive medical notes
    • Excellent knowledge of the Mental Health Act and Code of Practice along with Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Code of Capacity
    • Up to date record of Continued Professional Development (CPD)
    • The ability to work as part of a Multidisciplinary Team
    • Desirable: MRCPsych or equivalent

    Each service user has a bedroom with en suite facilities and a range of communal spaces including a gym, laundry, occupational therapy kitchen, therapy garden and woodland walkways down to the Elton Reservoir.
