    Cygnet Health Care is looking for a dedicated, caring individual to join the company as a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist at Cygnet St William’s.

    Cygnet St William’s is a brand new purpose built 12 bedded unit with a 3 bedded step down providing neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative rehabilitation and support for men with an acquired brain injury or neurodegenerative condition.

    The service will focus on the provision of support required for people to regain their maximum potential for independence, choice and opportunity and puts the individual at the centre of their own discharge planning. With the right support and our innovative and proactive rehabilitation environment, our aim is to support service users to return to the community or another suitable care pathway placement.

    The Opportunity:

    As a Highly Specialist SLT you will be working directly with a specialist caseload of patients with complex needs to assess their speech, communication and language needs (SCLN) in all environments.

    As part of a multi-disciplinary team on-site, you will also work with all staff across the hospital to support the implementation of the therapeutic and neuropsychiatric approach demonstrating an interest in upskilling the workforce. Being a new unit, you will be expected to implement and embed the SLT pathway for neuropsychiatric / neurodegenerative services in to the hospital and directly report progress through monthly supervision to the Head of SLT and unit manager. You will provide quality assessment, interventions and be skilled in both SCLN and dysphagia. You will be part of a companywide SLT service and contribute to the service enhancement.

    We are looking for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist with:

    • A degree / postgraduate diploma (or equivalent) in Speech and Language Therapy, registration with HCPC (Health Care Professions Council) and membership of the RCSLT (Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists).
    • Experience within a Band 6 / 7 Speech and Language Therapist role
    • Experience in the field of neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative conditions evidenced by high level of clinical SLT knowledge. Experience of working in inpatient/acute settings beneficial.
    • Understanding of Positive Behaviour Support with an emphasis on person-centred planning.
    • Qualification in Dysphagia management.
    • Dysphagia training is essential
    • Background experience in adult general and stroke is preferable
    • Evidence of being a strong team player with a genuine desire to help others
    • Excellent communication / time management skills.
    • Enthusiasm, motivation and passion.

    Full induction training is given and you will receive clinical supervision through the Director of SLT with day to day line management through the Head of Psychology.

You will also learn from some of the most dedicated and inspirational people in our profession and just like our service users you will be learning all the time through our on-going mentoring and support.   This position would support an NQP who has relevant experience of inpatient services.
