  • We are looking for a Gym Instructor with a passion for delivering outstanding care and Deliver exercise based activities to help maintain and improve the physical and mental health of service users across the hospital.

    You’ll be working 40 hours, making a positive difference to the lives of the people in our care at Cygnet Bury.

    In this role you’ll:

    • Assist in planning and facilitating a broad range of needs-led individual and group fitness, exercise and leisure sessions, accommodating each service user’s interests.
    • Show sensitivity to the mental health conditions the service users experience, the disadvantage this has brought them and the impact this has on service users interest in their physical health
    • Be responsible for risk assessments of the spaces used for physical activity and have an awareness of the daily risks presented by each service user prior to each physical activity engagement
    • Attend (when relevant) and actively contribute to CPA, working collaboratively with MDT colleagues in the planning and delivery of service users fitness programmes
    • To input notes into My Path contemporaneously and contribute to CPA/WR Summary reports as and when appropriate
    • Assists service users in establishing effective fitness/wellness goals and develops the most effective training plan to achieve those goals.
    • Provides guidance in proper exercise technique and variations of exercises to meet goals
    • Identify any increased risk to individuals as a result of their actions in the physical activity sessions and report immediately to relevant qualified clinical staff for that ward
    • Facilitate group training and awareness sessions and adjust activities accordingly.
    • Showing service users how to use exercise machines properly
    • Supervising service users to make sure that they are exercising safely and effectively
    • Leading group exercise classes, such as circuit training, aerobics etc.
    • Giving advice on healthy eating and lifestyle
    • Conducting relevant Health and Safety Checks on the gym equipment.
    • Collating exercise programmes that are tailored to the needs of the individual service users.
    • Assist clinical teams in supporting service users to engage with any national initiatives relating to physical health improvement in mental health services


    We're looking for people who have/are:

    • Level 2 Certificate in fitness instructing (awarded by Active IQ, City & Guilds, CYQ and VTCT), or
    • OCR Level 2 Certificate in teaching exercise and fitness
    • First aid certificate (including CPR)
    • Previous experience of working within a similar position.
