    Cygnet Hospital Taunton:

    Cygnet Hospital Taunton is a 54 bed CQC rated 'Good' site that provides specialist inpatient services the following; 2 male adult acute wards, 1 male older adult acute, 1 female older adult acute and 1 male pre-discharge older adult.

    Summary of Role:

    Clinical (ward based and team) duties:

    The post holder will ensure the systematic provision of assessments and appropriate evidence-based interventions and ensure that members of the multidisciplinary team including nursing staff have access to a psychologically based framework for understanding service users through the provision of advice, consultation and the dissemination of psychological knowledge and theory.

    The post holder will participate in CPD and other developmental activities, keeping up to date with relevant psychological research and national guidance. This includes developing and ensuring links with relevant agencies.  They will receive clinical and operational supervision from the Head of Psychology and have access to a wide range of CPD activities and courses relevant for their role.

    The post holder will utilise research skills for audit, policy, and research and service development within the hospital as a whole and specifically for the psychology department.

    This role will be working as part of an interdisciplinary team comprising of; a Consultant Psychiatrist, Specialty Doctor, Occupational Therapists, Nurses, Assistant Psychologists and Health Care Support Workers. You will be expected to offer psychological insight and knowledge around the clinical area and provide consultation about the psychological care of the client group to staff, families and other agencies.

    As a HCPC Registered Psychologist, you will have a pivotal role in the training and clinical supervision of Psychologist, Assistant Psychologists, Volunteers and Psychology Trainees/Students on site. You will also have involvement in audit, policy, service development along with the assessment and interpretation of outcomes.

    You will have…

    Essential:

    • A Doctorate Level Qualification (or equivalent) in Clinical or Forensic Psychology along with HCPC Registration 
    • Experience with an adult mental health client group, preferably working with acute clients  
    • Experience and knowledge of psychological assessment, treatment and therapies within mental health 
    • The ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team

    Desirable:

    • Experience working with clients who have a diagnosis of psychosis and/or personality disorder
    • Experience delivering DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) or CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)
    • Training and supervision experience

  • Cygnet Hospital Taunton provides specialist inpatient services for older adults with mental health problems and for men diagnosed with a learning disability. The hospital also provides an acute inpatient admissions service for men over the age of 18.

    The hospital is situated in a rural setting amongst Taunton farmland, within acres of peaceful fields. This quiet and tranquil environment offers great benefit to our service users who are able to walk in the expansive hospital grounds and take in the countryside scenery.

    Taunton town centre offers contrast to the quieter country life with market places, shopping malls and many other entertainment areas such as restaurants, theatres and cinemas.
