  • Cygnet, Beckton in East London is a well-established psychiatric in-patient hospital for female service users in crisis. The wards include a Psychiatric Intensive Unit (PICU), a Complex Personality Disorder service- Tier 3, a Specialist Personality Disorder service- Tier 4  and a Learning Disability Ward. Cygnet Beckton was rated ‘Good’ in the most recent CQC inspection. It is a smoke free gender specific hospital for women with complex mental health needs. We accept emergency and planned, pre-assessed admissions. We provide a multi-disciplinary approach, to help service users return home as quickly as possible.

    Our aim is to support individual service user recovery and integration back into the community, as quickly as possible. We have a multi-disciplinary team of specialists and offer a very broad range of therapies.

    An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Counselling/ Clinical Psychologist to provide psychological treatment, consultation to external services, and support the development of other members of staff and trainees on our Complex Personality Disorders ward- Tier 3 (Upping ward). You will be joining a team of highly motivated psychology staff with exceptionally supportive and friendly colleagues as well as management support from a senior psychologist in the team.     The post holder will ensure the systematic provision of assessments and appropriate evidence-based interventions and ensure that members of the multidisciplinary team including nursing staff on Upping ward have access to a psychologically based framework for understanding service users through the provision of advice, consultation and the dissemination of psychological knowledge and theory.

    The post holder will participate in CPD and other developmental activities, keeping up to date with relevant psychological research and national guidance. This includes developing and ensuring links with relevant agencies.  They will receive clinical and operational supervision from the Head of Psychology and have access to a wide range of CPD activities and courses relevant for their role.

    The post holder will utilise research skills for audit, policy, and research and service development within the hospital as a whole and specifically for the psychology department.
