Are you interested in a career in the field of mental health dietetics? We are currently looking for an enthusiastic Registered Dietitian to join our team of dietitians working within our specialist mental health services.

As a result of a new service opening, we are looking for a motivated Dietitian wanting to either expand or develop their skills, or learn new skills within an Adult Mental Health inpatient setting. The post holder will work at Cygnet Nield House in Crewe.

Cygnet Nield House in Crewe is our new 30-bed mental health hospital for women which is due to open in Autumn 2020.  Cygnet Nield House will be split into two distinct wards, each offering specialist mental health services.  This role will support Clarion Ward.

Clarion Ward at Cygnet Nield House is a complex personality disorder service for women with a dual diagnosis of personality disorder and co-morbid disordered eating. Both aspects can be treated simultaneously, with the appropriate specialist therapeutic input provided. The service will offer a phased treatment pathway which aims to help the individual service user understand and plan their journey through treatment.

Clarion Ward will focus on the need for treatment to be collaborative with service users taking account of individual need, evidence based, driven by multi-disciplinary understanding, support and intervention and conducive to progression through the service, increased post-discharge quality of life and functioning and reduced risk of relapse.

    What we want from you?

The Dietetic work will likely vary between a direct caseload, unit based clinics and possibly group work; managing a range of complex presentations including nutrition support, weight management and disordered eating. The post holder will provide a full Dietetic assessment of a clients’ needs, resulting in an individualised Dietetic plan for that client and work in close collaboration with the catering team and wider multi-disciplinary team to provide specialist advice on oral and non-oral feeding regimes.

Candidates should be a Registered Dietitian, preferably with some experience of working in a mental health setting, with excellent communication and IT skills. A working knowledge of behaviour change and motivational interviewing would be desirable. We have a robust clinical supervision structure and you would have opportunities to receive formal and informal training. You will receive regular peer supervision, with a strong emphasis placed on Continued Professional Development.

    Candidate Profile

We are looking for a Specialist Dietitian with:

    • A degree / postgraduate diploma (or equivalent) in Dietetics, registration with HCPC (Health Care Professions Council) and membership of the BDA (British Dietetic Association).
    • Experience within a Band 6 role.
    • Experience in the field of mental health and personality disorders evidenced by sound clinical knowledge.  Experience of working in inpatient/acute settings would also be beneficial.
    • Evidence of being a strong team player with a genuine desire to help others
    • Excellent communication / time management skills.
    • Enthusiasm, motivation and passion.

What is exciting about this post?

Being a new post, the post holder will be able to help form and develop the post from the onset, and help create the Dietetic service required for those accessing Clarion Ward.  The post holder will also have the opportunity to participate in policy development, audit, research activities, pathway development, staff and student training at both a local and national level.

    Will there be other dietitians?

This post is part of a wider national dietetics team at Cygnet.  Members of the team provide services to children and young people, eating disorders, learning disabilities, brain injury and mental health inpatient services.  Everyone has a dedicated onsite line manager for day to day support and then an additional tier of professional and clinical support from our Director of Speech and Language Therapy and Dietetics.  We also have a team of 50 Speech and Language Therapists who work closely with our Dietitians for dysphagia management.
