    We have an excellent opportunity at Cygnet Cedar Vale Hospital for a Consultant Psychiatrist/ Quality Improvement Lead to join us on a full-time or part-time basis. Flexible working will also be considered. Cygnet Cedar Vale is a high dependency complex care service for men with learning disabilities and other complex needs, providing psychiatric care for up to 14 patients and step down services.

    In this role, your expertise will be the driving force for life-changing treatment – fully supported by a first-class multidisciplinary team. You will also play a key role in leading quality improvement initiatives across the region, while being supported by Cygnet to obtain a higher qualification in Leadership and Management

    And you’ll have the opportunity to progress to Medical Director level through our management schemes and leadership programmes.

    Your role responsibilities…

    • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT)
    • Developing and delivering quality improvement initiatives throughout the region for Learning Disability services, while driving continuous improvement.
    • Take overall responsibility for patient treatment plans in conjunction with the MDT
    • Assess referrals & undertake mental state examinations of service users
    • Undertake appropriate investigations, diagnosis & treatment
    • Participate in ward rounds & clinical audits
    • Lead the implementation of risk assessment, risk management & embed clinical governance
    • Supervise reports for Mental Health Act tribunals & managers’ hearings & attend hearings
    • Participate in the 1 in 6/7 telephone on-call rota

    We are looking for someone who is... 

    • Fully GMC registered & MBBS (or equivalent) qualified 
    • Registered on the specialist register (CCT/CESR), Section 12 and AC Status
    • Experience of working in Adult Learning Disability / Autistic Spectrum Disorders and CCT/CESR in Learning Disability is desirable
    • Experienced & knowledgeable in adult psychiatry & mental health diagnosis
    • Knowledgeable of the Mental Health Act and Code of Practice, along with the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Code of Capacity
    • A first-rate communicator who can interview, assess & treat patients & write clear, comprehensive medical notes
    • Committed to continued professional development
    • Able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
    • A member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) or equivalent


    Successful candidates will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check.

  • Situated in East Bridgford, Nottinghamshire, Cygnet Cedar Vale is a specialist autism hospital, providing assessment and intervention for up to 14 men living with autism and learning disabilities, as well as associated complex needs or difficulties with social engagement. Cygnet Cedar Vale is an impressive period property, situated on the edge of a picturesque village in its own extensive grounds.

    The service consists of three distinct areas to support individuals with different levels of need. Each of these areas are aimed at providing the individuals with an environment that will support them for moving on to more independent living. Within the service there are a number of communal lounges and dining areas that provide a choice of dining experiences, as well as more opportunities for service users to socialise or have quiet time away from others. Other facilities include a recently expanded and upgraded sensory room, a large garden and skills rooms.
